Letter from Odessa
I met Yunli in
the summer of 2003. We were taking an organic
chemistry class together. We just happened to sit
right next to each other, I sat in the desk right in
front of her. Yunli was the nicest, sweetest person
in that class. Automatically, we clicked. We would
study together, have lunch together, and once we
even played tennis after class. We both really did
not know how to play tennis, so you can imagine how
difficult it was for us to keep the game going.
Nevertheless, we had a great time.
Yunli was my
smartest friend, yet she was very humble about her
intellect. She always encouraged me to believe in my
own ability to perform well in school, by always
saying that I was just as smart as she. But I knew
that wasn't true, but it made me feel good that she
saw greatness in me.
Yunli was a
beautiful person inside and out, who was always
willing to help anyone in need. I am deeply sadden
that I was unable to speak to her before her passing
away. But I am thankful that God allowed me the
privilege to be her friend, even for a short while.
Yunli had dreams
of becoming a doctor, just like myself; so next
Saturday on April 16, I will take the MCAT for the
both of us. I can't wait to see you there Yunli.
Yunli was my friend, she will remain in my heart
forever and I will miss her very much.
I love you Yunli.
